February 26, 2024

In a randomized controlled study of subjects undergoing corneal laser refractive surgery (SMILE or LASIK), 31 were treated with three sessions of perioperative IPL and 30 were treated with three sessions of placebo (sham IPL). At 3 and 6 months after surgery, signs and symptoms associated with dry eye disease (DED) were significantly better in the IPL group, compared to the control group.
These results suggest that perioperative IPL prevents temporary development of DED.
